Arbor Day is a holiday in which individuals and groups are encouraged to plant and care for trees. Today, many countries observe such a holiday. Though usually observed in the spring, the date varies, depending on climateand suitable planting season.

 

Arbor day is opportunity to hint people to know the importance of trees in out environment. Also, in this day the volunteers are planted more trees in their neighbourhood and gardens.

 

This year we re-celebrated Arbor day again in Egypt after more than four decades.

In Sabaheia Horiculture Research Station, we held a celebration in 16 March, 2015

and more 49 participants were attended.

The speakers covered various topics related to trees such as animal feeding and forage trees (Prof. Gamal Maharim), disposal of wastewater in irrigation of timber trees (Prof. Fatma Abdel Aziz). Prof. El-Sayed Hassan commented on using the trees in medicinal and aromatic field as NWFP. Additionally, Prof. Ashraf Al Assar commented on using trees as a source of edible fruits and using as windbreaks around orchards. Prof. Hosam Hassan talked about the future vision on planting timber trees in Egypt. Prof. Ahmed Amer Also commented on the negative aspect of the media in identifying and broadcasting information to tree investors. Dr. Hesham M. Aly spoke about planting the trees as ongoing charity (in Arabic: Sadaqa Jareyah).
